Our Top Five Alcohol-Free Beers To Try This Dry January
There’s a great choice of alcohol-free beers now on the market so if you’re hoping to participate in Dry January or just want to cut back your alcohol consumption in general, then we’ve a great selection to choose from. More and more breweries are starting to produce an alcohol-free drink and it’s great to see that they aren’t all blond! There are three common methods for removing the alcohol from a beer, namely de-alcoholization, stopped fermentation or the use of a special yeast. All three offer advantages but also disadvantages. As technology and ways of brewing advances, the quality and taste of alcohol-free drinks are improving significantly. Here’s our top five non-alcoholic beers to sample…
This fruit flavoured alcohol-free Belgian beer is brewed by Kasteel Brouwerij Vanhonsebrouck, located in Emelgem, Belgium. It offers a particularly delicious, alcohol-free beer experience. Its relationship to the original Kasteel Rouge is unmistakable: a ruby-red craft beer with a rich, creamy head and a distinctive palate. The faintly sweet aroma with hints of elderflower lends impetus to a refreshing craft beer, brewed with zero alcohol and packed with flavour. It is best served at five degrees Celsius.
La Trappe Trappist beers are brewed by Brouwerij de Koningshoeven in Holland and in 2024, the Trappist brewery celebrated its 140th anniversary, which is a very impressive milestone. To mark this special occasion, the brewery brewed a brand-new alcohol-free beer called La Trappe Nillis. It is the very first non-alcoholic Trappist beer to be made in the world so deserves a special mention, in our eyes. Unlike most non-alcoholic beers, La Trappe Nillis is a dark, amber-coloured beverage. It is malty with a caramel-sweet finish and lovely to drink in these colder months.
Superb-Owl is a non-alcoholic IPA, brewed by Uiltje Brewing Company, in The Netherlands. Not only does it have an ABV of 0.2%, but it also has a low calorie count at just 85 calories per can. This non-alcoholic IPA has won various beer awards. It tastes like a mature India Pale Ale and we love the can design too.
Maisels Weisse Alcohol-Free is a low alcohol, German wheat beer that is full of vitamins. It is also isotonic and full of flavour. It is deep amber in colour and pours cloudy. Maisels Weisse Alcohol-Free beer has won lots of beers awards, including a silver medal at the World Beer Awards 2020 and 2021 and a bronze medal in 2024.
Chouffe Alcohol-Free is the newest addition to Brasserie D’Achouffe and their first alcohol-free beer. Based on La Chouffe but without the alcohol, it is refreshing and light. It is brewed with a special type of yeast that doesn’t turn the sugars into alcohol. Great if you are tea-total, the designated driver or just prefer alcohol-free beer.
As is the case with all bottled drinks we sell, these alcohol-free beers are available by the bottle so perfect if you’ve not tried them before. If there’s too much temptation and you cannot decide, then we’ve put together an Alcohol-Free World Mixed Case, which contains 12 bottles and comes with a free Chouffe beer glass. Not only is it a great taster pack, but it also makes a great gift for someone who doesn’t drink alcohol. We think you will really enjoy our beers, so let us know what you think.
Why not take the taste challenge? All of the five drinks listed above have an alcoholic version. Blindfold yourself and see if you can pick out the alcohol-free drink. It’s harder said than done!
