Lupulus Beers – Now In Stock

After seventeen years of owning a beer company, we still love Belgian beers and sampling new brews. This month, we have had a beer delivery from Brasserie Lupulus. Not only are they an amazing Belgian brewery, but they are also a family business, so we are very happy to stock their great selection of bottled beers.

Did you know that Brasserie Lupulus was originally called Les 3 Fourquets? The brewery was first established in 2003, with the aim to supply the local pub with beer kegs. It is located in a village of Courtil, in the municipality of Gouvy, in the north of the province of Luxembourg. In 2007, the brewery produced a beer they called Lupulus, which translates into English as wolf. This is the reason there’s a wolf’s head on all of the Lupulus beer labels. Lupulus also comes from Humulus lupulus, the Latin name for hops, reflecting the brewery’s focus on hoppy beers. The brewery was renamed Brasserie Lupulus in 2016. Brasserie Lupulus blends traditional Belgian brewing techniques with modern influences.

The first Lupulus beer was created in Champagne bottles in 2007 and this idea came from Pierre Gobron, who was one of the creators of La Chouffe beer. Since then, Brasserie Lupulus has brewed a wide assortment of Belgian beers with various styles and using different brewing techniques. Let us introduce you to some of their beer range.

Lupulus Bruin is an unfiltered craft beer that undergoes refermentation in the bottle. This dark Belgian beer has an ABV of 8.5%. For a strong, brown ale, this is surprisingly refreshing to drink. It has a mild character and a light citrus aroma. No wonder it has won numerous beer awards!

Lupulus Hopera is an amber unfiltered craft beer. Expect some sediment in the bottle and lots of hops. It smells of exotic fruits, pine, citrus and caramel malt. It has an ABV of 6%. In 2023, it was awarded a gold medal at the Brussels Beer Challenge. This hoppy beer pairs well with a charcuterie and cheese platter.

Lupulus Fructus is the brewery’s fruit beer. It is brewed using raspberry and cherry juice, hence why it has a lovely rich red colour. This fruit flavoured Belgian beer has a subtle balance between sweet and sour and is smooth and refreshing to drink. It has a respectable 4.2% ABV.

Lupulus Blanche is a Belgian wheat beer, which is unfiltered and pours cloudy. It smells of citrus and coriander. It is quite bitter and has an ABV of 4.5%.

Lupulus Tripel is a strong, blond beer with an ABV of 8.5%. There is a balanced bitterness, a floral hop aroma and it has a sweet, dry finish. Lupulus Tripel pairs extremely well with Moules-Frites.

At The Belgian Beer Company, we like to give our customers lots of choice so all of our Belgian beers are available to purchase by the bottle, great if you’ve not tasted a certain beer before. Why not put your own Lupulus Mixed Case together and organise a beer tasting evening with your friends and family. We would love to hear your feedback and find out which Lupulus beer is your favourite.
